Oranda Goldfish
The most common color of oranda goldfish is bright orange and orange and white. A school of oranda goldfish are striking in the pond or the aquarium with their round bodies and distinctive crowns of different colors. As more colors become available this season we will add to the description of the assorted group.
The Oranda name comes from the Dutch phrase Lionhead because the English aquatic trade thought the origin of this variety was from Holland. Nope, all the selective breeding took place in China. Lionhead goldfish also share the bubble formation at the head, called a crown or wen, but have been further bred to remove the dorsal fin so that the round body and bubble formation are more accented.
